Private Violence

Harvard Club of Georgia and Center for Women at Emory University present a Special Screening of the HBO Documentary, Private Violence

Please join us for a very special screening of Private Violence, an award-winning film about domestic violence in America.

Private Violence, a feature-length documentary film and audience engagement campaign, explores a simple, but deeply disturbing fact of American life: the most dangerous place for a woman in America is her own home. Every day in the US, at least four women are murdered by abusive (and often, ex) partners.

Private Violence premiered at the Sundance film festival earlier this year, and it will make its television debut via HBO Documentary Films this fall. The Harvard Club of Georgia, in close partnership with the Center for Women at Emory University, is honored to bring this special screening opportunity to the Atlanta community on August 7.

A panel discussion and Q&A session will follow the screening of the film. Panelists include:

  • Kit Gruelle, who is the advocate that's featured in the film.
  • Liz Whipple, director of the domestic violence program at the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation.
  • Kirsten Rambo, Division of Violence Prevention at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and formerly Executive Director of the Georgia Commission on Family Violence.
  • Chanel Craft Tanner, Assistant Director for the Center for Women at Emory University, will moderate.

This event is free and open to the public. However, we are suggesting $10 donations with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Partnership Against Domestic Violence. Donations will be collected at the door on the evening of the event. Due to limited seating, RSVPs are required.
