Harvard Club Activities with KIPP WAYS Middle School

This year, Harvard Club of Georgia Leadership has decided to focus club volunteer activities on Atlanta’s KIPP WAYS Academy, a charter middle school located in southwest Atlanta. KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) is a national program started the the late 1990’s by alumni from Teach for America.  Charter schools such as KIPP are public schools that are funded, open to the public, and receive their charter allowing greater flexibility in school rules and organization. KIPP has long school days and long school years.  KIPP has been evaluated and found to be highly successful.  In recent years KIPP has expanded from an early focus on middle schools to include high schools and elementary schools. KIPP is committed to encouraging and supporting all of its students to pursue college education.

KIPP WAYS Academy offers an academically rigorous and structured learning environment that focuses on preparing students for competitive high schools and colleges. With a primary focus on scholarship, students at KIPP WAYS Academy are referred to and treated as “scholars,” which sets a clear tone at the school that learning is revered and will not be compromised in any way.
