silver comet trail bike ride
Join us Sat. Aug. 13th for this free family-friendly outing.
The Silver Comet Trail is located 13 miles northwest of Atlanta, Georgia. It's free of charge, and travels west through Cobb, Paulding, and Polk counties. This quiet, non-motorized, paved trail is for walkers, hikers, bicyclists, rollerbladers, horses, dog walkers, and is wheelchair accessible. We are planning a modest, family-friendly bike ride, probably 7-8mi/h average speed (doable for all).
Here is a rough itinerary for the day:
- Meet at about 8AM at the Florence Trailhead, which is ~11 miles into the trail, and has facilities, etc - see http://www.silvercometga.com/silver-comet-cobb-county/silver-comet-florence.shtml and a map at https://goo.gl/maps/Lu4P2XjAEZv.
- We will bike about 11-16 mi to the Pumpkinvine Trestle (or further, if people desire). A neat feature there is the Pumpkinvine Trestle, built in 1901, it is over 750 feet long, and rises 126 feet over Pumpkinvine Creek - http://www.silvercometga.com/silver-comet-paulding-county/silver-comet-rambo.shtml and explore more remote areas of the trail (if people desire).
- Stop for a snack and then either continue (or return), depending on how the group feels.
Registration is not required but much appreciated. Hope to see you there!
