Towards a Thriving and Abundant Life in the Middle East – The Role of the American University of Beirut

Panel Discussion on the Middle East, moderated by Nicole Dow of CNN.

The   panelists are the head of the Carter Center's middle east program, including  a leading figure from the CDC and the World Health Organization to talk about healthcare in the middle east; and a professor from Boston University that will speak about entrepreneurship in the region; and Harvard alum, Georges Sassine, MPP '09, speaking about how to drive change in the region.

The American University of Beirut (AUB) is a private, independent, co-educational, and non-secular institution of higher learning in Beirut, Lebanon. Founded in 1866 by American missionaries, AUB is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, and we are so proud that its new president, Dr. Fadlo R. Khuri, who will be attending the panel, was the former Deputy Director of the Winship Cancer Institute at Emory University. Discussion will begin with an analysis of some of the factors that lead to the current state of affairs in the Middle East and how to achieve truly democratic, vibrant, and thriving societies; and will conclude with a brief presentation that highlights the positive and transformative impact that AUB has had on Lebanon, the Middle East and the world in the 150 years since its founding, and the role it plans to continue to play in the future. Ms. Nicole Dow, Senior Editorial Producer at CNN’s global headquarters in Atlanta will serve as moderator of the panel. We encourage you to invite others who may be interested in attending this free event which is open to the public. Registration is required due to limited seating. A light reception will be served at 12 noon prior to the panel discussion.
