"The world knows Auburn Avenue as the street where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was born, played, preached, and lies in rest, but Sweet Auburn and its residents influenced who he was. The epicenter of African American Atlanta in the early 20th century, it holds the stories of Black Atlanta's schools, businesses, churches, banks, restaurants and so much more. Join Archive Atlanta host on this 1.5 mile walking tour to learn about Auburn Avenue, how it was shaped by a race massacre and great fire, and the men and women who made it special."

Please be aware that this route is one-way and starts and ends at different locations. Sunday is free parking, so there are options for parking at the start and walking back or parking at the MLK center parking and walking to the start. The tour will begin in front of the APEX Museum at 135 Auburn Avenue.

Host of the Archive Atlanta Podcast

Victoria Lemos is the voice, sweat and tears behind Archive Atlanta. A weekly history podcast sharing the stories of the people, places and events that have made Atlanta what it is. Born in NYC to immigrant parents, I've called Atlanta home for the last 16 years. I began as a volunteer tour guide, then became a bicycle tour guide and now do private walking tours and independent research for individuals, institutions and corporations.

Whether you call it hopeful or naïve, my goal is to share Atlanta’s amazing history with the most people possible, because you can’t care about something you don't know about. In a city that was born from the ashes, we don’t prioritize preservation or the past, but together we can change that. I truly believe knowing about the past helps us all be better humans in the present and future."
